While the debate over marijuana, legality, health benefits and negatives rages on there are many people who are in strife who care little for all these arguments because they are addicted to weed and what the masses decided about the drug matters little when your own personal life is falling apart due to addiction which is a separate point completely to all the others. If you are one of these people and are looking for tips on how to quit smoking weed then first I encourage you to shut out all of the pro and anti marijuana campaigners because your struggle is a personal one not just with marijuana but with a psychological addiction which only has tenuous links to the particular thing you are addicted to.

This does not mean that there are not specific things you need to know about marijuana in this but it all must center around your personal struggle and not all the side bullshit that goes on to do with pot. To quickly summarize what you may need to know about cannabis is this:

Marijuana is not physically addictive like other drugs that have chemicals in them that you can become dependant on, while you can suffer from withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, vivid dreams, irritability, mild nausea and so forth by scientific measures pot is not a drug you can be physically dependant on. Addiction is a mental disease that makes you believe you need something whether it be a drug or a behavior like gambling or sex. With Marijuana the mixed messages about the drug confuse people on what is addiction and what is dependence, if you are struggling to quit smoking weed you are addicted. To confuse matters more many people who are dependant on a drug like heroin are also psychologically addicted in a double whammy that is terrible. This leads to a perception that pot is the same when it should be treated quite differently.

What this boils down to is that you CAN quit smoking weed but only if you treat this as a personal addiction that you can overcome by changing yourself and not blaming the drug first and foremost. This is not to lessen the deep pain, anxiety and helplessness that may come from living with an addiction at all nor is it to trivialize the task of climbing out of this pit of despair either as the demons of the mind are the cruelest and most punishing of all. These tips on how to quit smoking weed are just a way to set a framework you can use to realign the way you think which aids in the all important aspect of willpower which is the only real way to move beyond an addictive habit.

Quitting Smoking Pot is a Choice

Sounds obvious doesn’t it? However by choice what I mean is a carefully considered choice, a choice based on the knowledge of the benefits of quitting weed and the negatives of continuing to smoking pot. This is not a whim, a quickly drawn line in the sand or a spontaneous vow based on anger or fear or a whole host of emotions that have led to your initial acceptance that smoking marijuana is becoming hurtful to you. Choice is saying “I choose not to smoke pot” rather than saying “I love pot but I need to quit”. This may sound like a whole lot of useless semantics to many however it is a proven psychological technique that the WAY we say things and the WAY we think of things effects the outcomes because language dictates more than a simple meaning but a whole host of other desires, excuses, fears and connotations when structured poorly. So make a choice to quit smoking weed and make it an informed choice.

Action Vs Reaction

The writer Rita Mae Brown once said “A life of reaction is a life of slavery, intellectually and spiritually. One must fight for a life of action, not reaction.” and this should be a quote written down and emblazoned in your memory because this is not only good advice for life but also in the case of addiction. How often do you take action to smoke a bowl compared to as a reaction? How often is the ritual of smoking pot coming from a reaction to something: A bad day, a fight with your partner, an inconsolable sadness or rage. How often does it come from a seeming NEED to get high and zone out, a compulsion brought on my troubles or by habit compared to perhaps what it was like early on when it was exciting and fun. Those that tally up way more on the reaction scale may find the reason behind the need for their addiction from the troubles that beset them and realize that the drug is just an escape and the problems behind it are what really needs to be solved. Some may find it easier to work on the reason behind the need first and others may take heart that a deeper understanding of your personal demons can give you the strength to quit smoking weed which will allow you to face those challenges with a clearer head and more success. This is action, control of your own life rather than a reaction to compulsion and external influences which is reaction and as the quote said makes you a slave to it and to marijuana in turn.

Plan

As you may have guessed I am a fan of the written word and the practical application of words on paper may be paramount here. The choice to actively seek a solution to your problems and a change in your life to quit smoking pot will propel you forward but how to do this comes down to planning, goals and motivation. The catch 22 of this is that when you are an addict sticking with a plan and keeping motivation and goals can be difficult and a single bad day can feel mix up all of this in your head and suddenly a single smoke does not seem so evil, then another and suddenly a week has gone before you realize it and the self loathing sets in. STOP! That is the direction you do not want to take and you know it! This is where ink can be a help if not your salvation because a psychological addiction is something in your mind, if you keep all your plans in your mind it is bounds to be influences by the negative thoughts that will plague you so why would you want the pure and good new ideas being corrupted there. My advice is to write things down, write down all the bad things about smoking pot, write down all the good things that will come from being weed free, write down you plan of attack whether it be quitting cold turkey or gradually limiting your smoking down to none at all. Write it down and keep it because those words do not change no matter how much your demands mess with your mind your pledge taken at your most insightful and enlightened point will always be there to set you back on the track you know you want to be on.

Persistence Outweighs Performance

Some people may have an easy time when quitting a marijuana habit but others may not, there are so many variables in this mix it is impossible to predict but there is one truth to it and that is that the end outcome of being free of your addiction is worth more than any failures you have along the way. Most people who try to quit any addictive behavior do not do so on their first try, nor their second and many more beyond that often. This is disheartening and depressing but it does not need to be if you do not want it to be. Every time you fall, every time you give in, every time you blunder on your goal to giving up weed you learn something new about yourself and about the world and each of those experiences is ammunition for the next fight. Victory goes to those who persist and learn and adapt and survive so when you call your performance on quitting into question remember it is not how easy it is, it is if you make it in the end and if you maintain the drive despite the pitfalls that will ensure your success.

Quitting marijuana is not an easy thing to do. The process can be to difficulty if you don’t have the will power to undertake the change. The most complex part is the emotional aspect of the withdrawal. This is where most pot users fail, most especially if they have no one to turn to in their most trying time. To be able to overcome the detoxification process you must be able to discuss this process to someone close to you.

The first thing you should know before quitting from marijuana is that, not all people have the physical strength and will power to change. Most people can easily stop, without doing anything to change, they just did it. While other suffers severely from the side effect of smoking pot, this is still nothing compared to the side effect that most heavy drug users have experience. Nevertheless pot users can still experience the uncomfortable side effect of withdrawal. Such as;

·Insomnia
·Wild and vibrant dreams
·Queasiness
·Unclear feeling
·Nervousness
·Misery
·Lethargy

This experience can actually last for a week or maybe a couple. As the body cleans the remaining THC of the system or until the body gradually get comfortable again to itself. It may take awhile for other people to really take the marijuana completely out of the body system. However there are a small number of things that you can really do to speed up the process of recovery. The following are just some of the process to help you get detoxify.

Exercise - Exercising regularly is actually a great way to immense yourself in doing other things, like smoking pot. Since you are just starting to quit smoking the craving for the marijuana is still in your body system. Exercise can make you feel really good about yourself and it also help release the chemical name endorphins. This chemical can give you the exact feeling of satisfaction when smoking marijuana, but without the same negative effect of actually smoking pot.

Another benefit of smoking is that it gives you a healthier state of mind. A much fitter and desirable body while building your immune system that has been weakens when you are still smoking. Also exercise can quickly flush out any remaining THC that is hidden in the fat of the body. No need to lift heavy equipment to make exercise works, just a quick run in the morning, brisk walking, aerobics and yoga is more than enough.

Drinking Green tea and Water – Another best way to quickly clean your body of marijuana is to drink plenty of green tea and water. Green tea can in fact make you more hydrated, and when you become hydrate you will be able to drink more water out of your regular intake. Green tea has antioxidants which is good to your health. Your main goal is to drink more water than you can really drink in a day to help your body detoxify. Drinking water can help flush out the toxins and THC whenever you urinate.

As far as real drug addictions go, does marijuana really qualify as being a true addiction? Some people debate the idea that it could be a real addiction because there are generally no physical consequences when stopping the use of the drug. But on the other hand, a lot of people seem to depend heavily on smoking weed every single day of their lives and in this respect it seems like the drug might very well be more addictive then we once thought.

So what is the real truth here? Is it addictive? Or do people just fall into the patterns and the lifestyle naturally and want to keep getting high? Where do we draw the line and say that this behavior is real addiction?

Let’s think for a second about what real addiction is. We can look at the medical definition, the definition in the dictionary, what behaviorists believe addiction is, and so on. For the purposes of our discussion, we are going to define addiction as this: when someone has lost the power of choice regarding their behavior. That is real addiction and almost no one would argue that someone in this state of being is not addicted. If they have truly lost the power to decide whether to take or leave a drug, then that is real addiction.

Does this happen with marijuana use? Yes it does. Most people who try marijuana get high a few times and then move on with their lives. The same would go for thousands of young people who try alcohol or other drugs for the first time in their life. It is just another experience for them and they move on and don’t really think much of it.

But for a small percentage of people out there, they try a drug such as marijuana and they are hooked. They are off to the races. The drug lights up their life and they get excited and passionate about it. They obsess over it and want to do it all the time. This is addiction. What typically happens next is that the person will start to slowly restructure their life so that they are living a lifestyle that involves heavy smoking of marijuana. In other words, they drift away from friends who do not smoke weed and start making new friends who do use marijuana all the time. They start to focus and plan their activities around smoking weed and planning and scheming for ways to buy and get more of it. This is the obsessive element that accompanies any addiction. It happens with marijuana and this is just more evidence that it is an addictive drug.

Now of course, there are some who content that weed is not really addictive because there are almost no physical side effects when you stop using it suddenly. This is actually not true in heavy smokers and some people do experience signs of a withdrawal that include sluggishness and fatigue. But also, it is obvious to me that smoking weed is very addictive mentally and many people use it on a daily basis in order to escape their reality. Another way to say it is if you are relying on marijuana use on a regular basis in order to make it through your day, then that is basically using the chemical instead of coping with real life. This is an immature way to live and if you cannot walk away from such a pattern very easily then you are probably addicted to the drug.

While the debate over legalizing marijuana still rages and the pros and cons of this drug are debated endlessly those who have developed an unhealthy addiction to this drug know all too well the negative effects it can bring to ones life. From the massive amount of time that disappears from your life, the amount of money you keep shelling out to feed the addiction to the frightening lack of clarity and memory that comes from long term use, pot smokers looking to kick the habit keep looking for the answer on how to quit smoking marijuana.
Thankfully there are a few key facts about marijuana addiction that can help you quit marijuana forever. The first thing you must know is that marijuana is not a chemically addictive drug like cigarettes or cocaine which contain certain chemicals that give the user withdrawal symptoms that have physical side effects that only the drug itself seem to be able to cure. Marijuana has none of these properties which means that addiction to pot is a physiological addiction.
Psychological addiction is similar to gambling addiction or alcohol addiction in that the user seeks the high of this activity because they desperately want it for reasons to do with their state of mind not what their body craves. While a problem gambler may keep gambling for the elation of winning and the chance to gain back his losses a marijuana addict must have a core set of issues that bring tem back to the drug time and time again. For some it is simple as being a relaxant they rely on to help them calm down, others are drawn back because all of their friends also smoke and they do it to be social, others still may have mental problems that cut deep and the high of marijuana smoking is the only thing they feel can help them escape their constant torment.
In any case however the solution is similar, find these core issues you have before you try to give up on marijuana! If you do not have a firm grasp on the issues that keep you coming back to the drug you will never be able to quit smoking pot and keep sliding back into using it again and again.
So before you even start trying to quit smoking marijuana take this advice and look at the root causes of your addiction which may not be the same as why you started smoking either. I hope this can help you to quit marijuana and live the life you want to lead!

Many people who decided they want to quit marijuana have no idea where to begin. This article discusses some simple steps you can take to begin the journey of quitting marijuana. Take the first step and set a quit date, then write it down!

Set a Date to Stop Smoking Weed.

The purpose of setting a quit date, is to allow yourself to get mentally and physically prepared to quit smoking marijuana. Your quit date should be an actual date. It should not be when your stash runs out, or roughly a week before the next semester of school starts, or next month. It is important to nail down the date. In my personal experience, before I learned to set a date that I would stop, I used to smoke my stash as quickly as possible. I did this because I convinced myself that each bag was my last bag. When my bag ran out, I would buy another one, and smoke it just as quickly, convincing myself that it was also the last bag. Does this sound familiar? I recommend setting your quit date, within one month of the current date. If you wait any longer, you are less likely to follow through with your goal. It is a great idea to set your quit date just before a vacation begins, or other major event. Quitting Marijuana is a lifestyle change. If you attach it to another lifestyle change, you are more likely to be successful.

Understand your Addiction.

Marijuana addiction is a controversial topic because people fail to differentiate between a physical addiction and a psychological addiction. While marijuana has physical withdrawal symptoms similar to that of cigarettes, it is the psychological aspect of the addiction but most users struggle with. Long-term marijuana smokers are in the habit of smoking pot every day and are used to being in a stoned mindset. While you do not have a physical need for marijuana, you do have a mental need to get high. that’s the tricky thing about it. It’s not that you’re addicted to marijuana, it’s that your mentally addicted to being high. the more we smoke, the more our brains get used to being high, and the more we crave that state of mind. he will go through a mental battle when you stop smoking weed. You need to prepare for battle.

Get Rid of Your Gear

Marijuana smokers have lots of great gadgets. You may want to give all of your supplies to friends, or you may wish to throw them away or break them as a symbol of your resolve to stop smoking weed. Whatever you do, clean your environment so that there is no trace of marijuana or of marijuana related equipment. Cravings are easier to resist when there is nothing immediately in front of you. People will do some strange things to get stoned, including smoking pipe resin, checking the cushions for weed crumbs and roaches, or even digging through the trash to find the last scraps they threw away. I will admit, I have done all of these things in the past.

Be prepared for withdrawal.

Not being prepared for marijuana withdrawal is the number one reason that people fail to quit smoking. If you’ve got a quit date set, you’re already ahead of the game, because you know when you will be going through withdrawal, and you’ll be prepared. Anxiety is very common in the first stages of withdrawal. For example, you have probably been through a time when you just run out of pot and have made plans to get more but it didn’t work out. You are on edge and jittery until you can secure a new supply, or at least get stoned. Multiply this by 10 times, you will have an idea of what the anxiety can be like if you are unprepared to quit for good. Insomnia and loss of appetite are also common in the first week of quitting. Do your research on what withdrawal will be like so that you can be mentally prepared to face these problems when they arise after you quit smoking weed.

Have A Plan
