question about methadone and marijuana?
I have been on methadone maintenance for about 2 weeks now. It’s been a life saver in helping with withdrawal and I no longer have to be shooting up all day long. I find it really helps kill any withdrawal I have but it doesnt get me near as high as heroin or morphine ever did. I smoked some weed the other night and it was the first time i got stoned while on methadone. I didnt find the high to be as good as it was on morphine or heroin as well. I used to love getting stoned on heroin and morphine but I find it is not enjoyable at all on methadone. I also found it took away from the effects that methadone produces. It took away the warm, relaxed and social aspects of the methadone. It also made me lazy and put me in an agitated mood. When I woke up the next morning I didnt feel that great at all. When I got my daily dose of methadone I slowly started to feel better again. This is great because I used to love smoking weed and now since it takes away from the goodness of methadone I am not going to smoke anymore. Does anyone know why this happened? howcome I got this reaction with the methadone and not with any of the other opiates I have used (oxycodone, hydrocodone, morphine, heroin, dilaudid, codeine). And did this happen to anyone else on methadone (like any similar experiences)? Thanks
P.S. I dont need/want to know about how dangerous mixing methadone and weed can be. and I dont want no “go ask your doctor” answers.
John: thanks for the reply. I started using opiates fr anxiety/depression and a severe case of adhd. Stimulants helped me but didnt help the anxiety at all and made me more depressed when they wore off. I truly believe I am the “hyper” type you mentioned and I think I have a dysfunction in the opiate part of my brain. I think I will be on this for life because since i’ve been on opiates I havent had a depressed stage at all. Some people say that opiates give a mood boost and you get tolerance to it. But I must disagree with that. I did get tolerance to the methadone and yes the euphoria has gone away but the antidepressant effects havent left. I am an opiate user for life because they truly make me feel normal! not high. Just like stimulants lose there good feelings and there euphoria over time but te effect they have on concentration doesnt go away the same goes for opiates. The antidepressant effect doesnt fade away but the calming and euphoric effects do. Thanks for your answer!!

question about marijuana?
i smoked it for about 2 and a half months straight and it was fine, it was a fun summer and i had good experiences with it. then the week when school started up and i had to go to college for the first time my dad basically caught me doing it and i didnt smoke for a week. i started getting withdrawals and then when they ended i did it again but a little less than i did before. than this one night i had a bad experience with it and then i felt like super crappy the next morning like depressed and restless and stuff and it was like that for a month. then after about a week after i felt better i tried it again just a joint between me and my friend of baby dro and i was fine at first but then when i got home and was coming down off the high i was anxious and restless and scared that i made the withdrawal longer and i did i went through it for 13 more days. now its been 4 months since ive done it i feel fine like if i did it nothing bad would happen i wanted to do it again because i had good times with it and stuff and i wont do it again and i dont want to drink because thats worse. i think its because i wasnt all the way through withdrawal so when i did it it made it worse. do you think i can do it again? but just not as much
. i just want to go back to when i was fine and happy doing it with my friends.
*also the weed wasnt laced b/c my friend was fine

What is so bad about marijuana?
I do not understand why marijuana us illegal, and has so many negative things against it. I am not a stoner, and have probably smoked less than 10 times in my life (I’m 17). It just kinda makes me feel like I am floating, intense comfort, and I’m giggly.
Medical marijuana is much more effective for certain diseases/conditions than the current, rarely used treatment, dronabinol. Dronabinol is just synthetic THC, and it lacks many other beneficial cannabinoids. It helps with nausea/appetite problems in cancer and AIDS patients, helps glaucoma, is a muscle relaxant, and a natural expectorant.
The only time that marijuana has truly helped me was during the summer of 2008, I had a nasty case of bronchitis. I had to go to the hospital and I was given IV morphine and other opioids to take home (hydrocodone) to help relieve my cough. The opioids worked and I stopped taking them, but my cough just came back, and I decided to try marijuana. It helped me cough up the stuff that was in my lungs, and it worked. When my doctor asked me how my cough was cured I was just like, “I smoked weed,” and she just kinda shook her head.
I think that marijuana should be allowed to be used for recreational uses, just as alcohol and tobacco are used. It is not addictive, as it causes almost no physical withdrawal symptoms, but psychologically, it may be habit forming. The reason I think that most governments refuse to legalize marijuana is because of potency issues, and it is harder to tax because of these potency issues. For recreational purchase, people should be 18+ to buy it.
I think the reason it is the most used illegal drug is because it gains all this negativity from media, and anti-drug campaigns, which instead of curbing use, causes teens to have curiousity about it and want to try it. If it was common to go to the store and pick up a little bit of pot to smoke, a lot of teens would just be like, “I can do it whenever I want when I’m 18″, just how I feel about cigarette smoking. My parents are both tobacco smokers, they smoke outside and never inside, I have never found tobacco/nicotine that appealing, it makes me feel dizzy, smelly, and it tastes like s**t.
I just don’t understand why it is so bad or illegal, as smoking cigarettes is worse because nicotine has a much higher dependence liability, and so does alcohol. So that makes nicotine and alcohol much more addictive. I think that it should be decriminalized and/or legalized for distribution to the public, but that probably won’t happen.
Any comments others have?

question about withdrawal from drug? this does not pertain to me in any way?
if you quit marijuana for a while and then get withdrawal, if you do it again then the withdrawal will be worse and begin again. so if you were to wait like 5 months when its totally over could you do marijuana again with no problem? i mean i know the whole point of withdrawal is to quit for good but what would happen?
again this does not pertain to me this is psychology

The Dangers of the Marijuana Maintenance Program
In order to stop drinking, some people who have become dependent on alcohol will take the controversial step of substituting the use of marijuana for alcohol, a practice that is known as the Marijuana Maintenance program.
Those who defend the use of marijuana to help themselves stop drinking argue that the use of marijuana is much less hazardous to their health than alcohol. The use of marijuana as a substitute for drinking alcohol, though, does have its own drawbacks.
Although the use of marijuana may indeed be less hazardous than heavy drinking — especially to someone who has been drinking excessively for a long period of time — smoking pot comes with its own set of negative effects and consequences:
•In most jurisdictions, the possession and use of marijuana is illegal.
•According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, marijuana can contribute to mental health problems.
•Use of marijuana can also have long-term effects on the health of regular users.
•Smoking marijuana can affect the user’s learning and social skills.
•Long-term marijuana use can affect a smoker’s memory and speed of thinking.
Also, for those who later decide to quit smoking marijuana, the withdrawal symptoms when they try to quit smoking can be similar to those experienced by people who quit smoking cigarettes.
